Now that we've covered great V-Day gifts for women, what about men? Men are a little harder to buy for because most of the gifts that work for women, just don't work for men (flowers, chocolates, lingerie, jewelry, etc.). So what should you get the man in your life? Here are some ideas.

Watches

Although jewelry doesn't work, a beautiful watch is a great addition to any man's wardrobe. Here are some great deals on watches available now:

Do Something for Him

• Get the kids out of the house for the night and cook him dinner (maybe not on the day of Valentine's so you can actually find a sitter). After dinner watch your wedding video and talk about what you remember about your wedding day.
• Make him some love coupons with things that he usually doesn't get (i.e. not "clean the kitchen" or "take the dog for a walk" if he doesn't usually do these things anyway). For example, if he hates mowing the lawn every weekend, make him coupons for mowing the lawn so he can have a break every once in awhile.
• Schedule out some together time for you and him when no one else is around. Pick an activity he really enjoys and do it with him (with a good attitude even if it's not one of your favorite things to do).
• Give him a heart attack. No, don't send him to the hospital, but cut out a bunch of hearts and hide them around the house, car, his lunch, his briefcase, wherever (maybe get up early before he leaves for work and do it). On each heart, right something you love about him. 
• Write him a love letter. Sure emails and texts are great, but there is something about a hand-written letter. Write why you fell in love and how you feel today. Tell him all the things you're grateful for and why you're glad you two are together. Don't forget to seal with a lipstick kiss and light spray of perfume.

Ah, who am I kidding? Most of my readers are women, so it might not help to give gift ideas for a wife, but hey, maybe it will give you ideas of what to "suggest" to your hubby, right? And with Valentine's Day only 8 days away, there's no time to waste, especially if you're ordering online.

Maybe this year, you can hint and see if he takes it. Create a wishlist on Amazon with anything and everything that you'd like to get, send him the link and see if he actually follows through. Here are some ideas for great V-Day presents:

Jewelry is always a classic Valentine's gift and for good reason: what better way to remind her she's beautiful than by buying her something beautiful. Here are some classics for a great price.

Are Food Allergies Linked to GM Foods?

I can't remember if I've mentioned this on the blog, but my boys have food allergies--both of them. What's interesting is that they have the same allergies: eggs and peanuts. I think that's unusual (though I could be wrong). Luckily, neither of the allergies are life threatening. My oldest, Alex, will throw up if peanuts touch his mouth and will get hives but my youngest, MW, will only get some hives and he can eat peanuts other than that.

Have you heard about the rise in food allergies? There are all these theories on why so many more kids are getting sick and having food allergies than ever before, but it's been hard to pinpoint.

Well, lately I've been trying to learn more and more about eating healthy and what that means. My sister is going to school to become a nutritionist and she's gone gluten-free, dairy-free, and mostly sugar-free. So she sends me articles about GM (genetically modified) foods, especially corn and soy, and how it's causing all of these health problems.

In fact, in almost every other country, GM foods are outlawed and/or it's required to list them on the foods if they include GM ingredients. It's hypothesized that the GM foods are causing food allergies because the body can't process the foods correctly. Some, especially those produced by Mansanto, are created with a toxin that can kill bugs and are resistant to Roundup herbicide. What happens is that bugs who try to eat are killed (specifically it causes their bellies to explode) and then the farmers use Roundup on it but since the food is resistant, it doesn't die.

Bottom line? We ingest the Roundup used on it and we ingest food that is causing cells to explode the way that these insects bellies explode. Which leads to food allergies, as well as other problems.

Scary!

So what can we do to stop it? Don't eat GM foods. Find out which ones are not (namely organic and non-GMO certified). This is our best way to stop these food producers. Once they see we won't buy their products, they'll stop using them. Also, if your state has proposed a law that would require manufacturers to label when they use GM ingredients, please support it. If manufacturers are required to list it in the ingredients, they'll likely switch to food that is not GMO.
